Stan Chart Marathon After Thoughts

Managed to complete the marathon in 5:30, slightly better timing than the last, but did not feel sense of accomplishment this time round.. In fact, I was quite unhappy. Maybe I know that I could have done much better with slightly more training. I guess my unhappiness is also partially due the article in Straits Times on Saturday, "Plodders have place in marathons" by Jeanette Wang.

In this article, she wrote that everyone should be given the chance to complete a marathon no matter how slow they might be. However, one thing that she irks: people taking part in marathon and not training for it. I am guilty of taking things too lightly. Ha I only did my regular 5km run but expected myself to complete the 42km with ease.

The real marathon starts after the 30km mark. And I failed badly... walked the last 10km for close to 2hrs! Totally cramped. Once I tried to jog, leg cramped! From the runpix statistics, "Over the Final 10km You passed 74 runners And 722 passed you". o.0 Who are the 74? =.= I guess I have been taking for granted that I can complete the run easily.

This shall remind that I must train for the next marathon that I participate.
Target timing will be 4:30.

Ambitious target but I believe it is achievable if I put in effort to train!

"Talk to me" (溏心风暴Ⅱ之家好月圆)

Ice Cream by Ciara Newell

Talk to me, speak with me
Don't sink before you rise baby
Don't fade away
You hesitate, you seem to wait
For all the time we had feels a world away

'Cause who's to say we'll be okay
We will make it through the night
Don't want to wake up in this state
I just want us both to smile

'Cause we're the same and I know that will never change
Look I bought your favourite ice cream
I don't want to see it melt away
If you walk out now
I don't know if we could be the same
Baby, just talk with me
'Cause I want you to stay here with me

The memories, the things we did
Are locked inside my heart
Where I know I won't forget them now

Who's to say we'll be okay
We will make it through the night
Don't want to wake up in this state
I just want us both to smile

'Cause we're the same and I know that will never change
Look I bought your favourite ice cream
I don't want to see it melt away
If you walk out now
I don't know if we could be the same
Baby, just talk with me
'Cause I want you to stay here with me

In The Deep - Bird York (movie CRASH)

Song from the movie CRASH.. nice movie! This movie shows us no one is perfect ba...

Thought you had
all the answers
to rest your heart upon.
But something happens,
don't see it coming, now
you can't stop yourself.
Now you're out there swimming...
In the deep.
In the deep.

Life keeps tumbling your heart in circles
till you... Let go.
Till you shed your pride, and you climb to heaven,
and you throw yourself off.
Now you're out there spinning...
In the deep.
In the deep.
In the deep.
In the deep.

And now you're out there spinning...
And now you're out there spinning...
In the deep.
In the deep.
In the deep.

In the silence,
all your secrets, will
raise their worried heads.
Well, you can pin yourself back together,
to who you thought you were.
Now you're out there livin'...
In the deep.
In the deep.
In the deep.

In the deep...

Now you're out there spinning...
Now you're out there swimming...
Now you're out there spinning...
In the deep.
In the deep.
In the deep.
In the deep...

2nd Sundown Marathon 30th May 2359

Yup went to my 2nd Sundown marathon (my 3rd marathon overall) despite some hesitations. Haha I was thinking whether not to go as just back from Korea on 29th night. But I am glad that I went in the end!

Although I never ran for the past 3 weeks ( sick and holiday), I still managed to complete the run. And i think the timing is better than my previous 2 runs (5hr 35mins, to be confirmed when timing is out on Mon)!

Saw a long-time-nv-c sec sch fren there too! Amazed that she is thinking to do the New York Marathon next year! Pei fu! But she is good! first time marathon and she came in same timing as me! The training she put in really counts! Admired her determination to train continuously and consistently! *clap*

Korea 22nd May to 29th May

Yeah went holiday. First time to Korea. First time with the gang. First time with tour group.

I think it is good experience. But I still prefer free and easy bah.. more relaxing and can follow your own pace. But then have to do your homework and language is a big barrier (if English is not used)!

The tour guide just dun leave a good impression. Haha.. feel she is too cunning and trying to chop us. The other thing I dun like is the food! Wah super boring.. everything w either steamboat or bbq wok in the centre.

Another very nice song of Luo!

Recently starting to admire Luo more and more.. so many different faces of him and he really does his career planning! From his interview, he mentioned that he did singing, hosting, drama all rounder.. cos he knows that in showbiz, one cannot be 1-dimensional. AGREED, in fact I think this is true for everyone! Haha but one pt I have to mention: I still find that his name 'Show Luo' is crappy!

★LADY LADY ONE MORE TRY
LADY LADY ONE MORE TRY

Repeat ★

LADY LADY ONE MORE TRY
LADY LADY ONE MORE TRY

Self Appraisal

A little boy went into a drug store, reached for a soda carton and pulled it over to the telephone. He climbed onto the carton so that he could reach the buttons on the phone and proceeded to punch in seven digits (phone numbers).

The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation:
Boy: "Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?
Woman: (at the other end of the phone line): "I already have someone to cut my lawn."
Boy: "Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now."
Woman: I'm very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.
Boy: (with more perseverance) : "Lady, I'll even sweep your curb and your sidewalk, so on Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach , Florida."
Woman: No, thank you.

With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy.
Store Owner: "Son... I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job."
Boy: "No thanks,
Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one.
Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!"

This is what we call "Self Appraisal"

Perception

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousand of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, tickets for Joshua Bell's performance at a theater in Boston were sold out and the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of an social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

A picture of Joshua Bell with his violin

Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

William Henry Davies (1871-1940)
